I was really looking forward to the first match of the season at Bewdley on Saturday but five hours fishing saw me take just three barbel, two chub and an eel for a thirteen pound total and no prize. I did however lose one good barbel that shed the hook that would have won me a section prize, such is life!

On Friday I went to Woodland View fishery and fished in some of the worse conditions I've ever known, especially in June! Torrential rain and hail stones the size of marbles compounded a truly forgettable match that I was glad to finish. I ended with around twenty five pounds of mainly small barbel on chopped worm. The match was won by Klaus Fix on peg five, on front Deans pool with ninety two pounds of carp on meat and corn.

The rain we had on Friday meant the Severn came up around six inches overnight and on Saturday it didn't look too good. The weights however were excellent in places with match winner John Stockton at peg 115 putting seventy two pounds of barbel onto the scales for a comfortable win. I drew peg 132 and would have fancied it for a weight of chub on the float but with the extra colour in the river I had to fish the feeder and bites were at a premium.

If Saturday had been hard, Sunday, for me, was even worse. I fished the Woodland View match and really struggled on peg twenty-eight for just one carp in five hours. A lot of other anglers also struggled and it goes to show it doesn’t matter how many fish are in a water, if they don't want to feed or aren't in front of you, you will struggle, simple as that.
Loads of fishing this week. Woodlands View, the Severn and the Warwickshire Avon all beckon. Hopefully I will be reporting on better things for yours truly next week!
